Description
🎓 Process Engineering Design Training — live online training from 3D-LABS, taught by practising design engineers who build the calculators and software used on EPC projects every day.
⏱ Duration: 8 weeks · 🕑 Schedule: 2 hrs/day, weekday or weekend batches · 📶 Level: Intermediate to Advanced · 💻 Mode: Live online, every session recorded
👷 Who this course is for
Chemical and mechanical engineers moving into process design, plant engineers who size equipment, and graduates targeting EPC process roles.
📚 Course structure
- Process design basis and PFDs — Material and energy balances, design basis documents, battery limits, and how a PFD becomes a plant.
- P&ID development — Line numbering, instrumentation and control philosophy, utility stations, and structured P&ID review practice.
- Hydraulics and line sizing — Pressure drop, two-phase flow, slurry and gravity lines, and line sizing criteria that hold up in review.
- Pumps, compressors and drivers — Pump curves, NPSH available versus required, cavitation, compressor selection and capacity control.
- Separator and vessel sizing — Two and three-phase separators, retention time, Souders-Brown velocity, demister and knock-out drum sizing.
- Relief and flare systems — Relief scenario selection, PSV sizing, rupture discs, flare and KO drum sizing to API 520 and 521.
- Heat transfer equipment selection — Duty and LMTD, and choosing between shell and tube, air cooled and plate exchangers.
- Hydrocyclones, filters and separation internals — Cut size, efficiency curves and selection for solid-liquid duties.
- Control valves and flow measurement — Cv sizing, cavitation and flashing limits, orifice and flow element sizing.
- Process deliverables — Equipment datasheets, line lists, equipment lists and the documents a process engineer signs.
