Description

🎓 Welding and NDT Inspection Training (ASME Section IX) — live online training from 3D-LABS, taught by practising design engineers who build the calculators and software used on EPC projects every day.

⏱ Duration: 5 weeks  ·  🕑 Schedule: 2 hrs/day, weekday or weekend batches  ·  📶 Level: Beginner to Intermediate  ·  💻 Mode: Live online, every session recorded

👷 Who this course is for

QA/QC engineers, welding and fabrication supervisors, inspection staff and mechanical engineers who review weld documentation or sign off fabricated equipment.

📚 Course structure

  1. Welding processes and metallurgy basics — SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW and SAW, heat affected zone behaviour, preheat and PWHT logic.
  2. Reading ASME Section IX — Essential, non-essential and supplementary essential variables, and how the code is actually navigated.
  3. WPS and PQR — Writing a WPS, qualifying it through a PQR, test coupon requirements and ranges of qualification.
  4. Welder and operator qualification — Position and thickness ranges, performance qualification tests, continuity and requalification.
  5. Heat input and welding parameters — Heat input calculation, interpass temperature, consumable control and bead sequencing.
  6. Weld joint design and strength — Fillet and groove weld strength, weld symbols, and joint details that cause site problems.
  7. NDT methods — Visual, penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography, ultrasonic and phased array — capability, limits and when each is specified.
  8. Acceptance criteria and defects — Defect types, acceptance limits in ASME VIII and B31.3, repair procedures and repair documentation.
  9. In-service inspection — Corrosion rate, remaining life and inspection intervals to API 570 and API 510 thinking.
  10. QA/QC documentation — ITPs, weld maps, NDT reports, traceability and the dossier handed over at the end of a job.

🧮 3D-LABS calculators and software you will use

Every module is taught against real design sheets from our library of 680+ engineering calculators — you keep access to them and can use them on the job from day one.

  • Heat input and interpass temperature calculation
  • Fillet and groove weld strength check
  • WPS and PQR variable range tracker
  • Welder qualification range calculator
  • API 570 remaining life and inspection interval
  • Corrosion rate and minimum thickness check
  • NDT coverage and acceptance criteria matrix
  • Weld repair and NCR tracking template

🖥 Tools, codes and standards covered

ASME Section IX, ASME Section VIII Div 1, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, ASME Section V for NDT methods, API 570 and API 510 in-service practice.

📦 What is included

  • Certificate of completion issued by 3D-LABS
  • Lifetime access to course notes and session recordings
  • Working calculators and templates used in class
  • A guided mini-project with reviewed deliverables
  • Doubt-clearing support with the trainer after the batch ends

🎯 What you can do after this course

Write and qualify a WPS, review a PQR and welder qualification record, specify the right NDT method, and judge a weld against code acceptance criteria instead of guessing.
